Mairangi Bay on Auckland’s North Shore is known for its good schools, upmarket real estate and safe swimming beach. There’s a decent Farmers market on Saturday morning, the cafe of the year sits on the main street and now there’s an award winning baker. The bakery has been in Mairangi Bay for ages and from the outside it’s really nothing remarkable but inside between all the usual cakes and slices, sandwiches (with lots of filling) and bread there are gold medal pies. Two took this top honour in the NZ Pie Competition this year: the brandied apple, apricot and grape pie and the seafood and leek pie. Nice to see some pie creativity going on, and I can vouch for the results. Very yummy.
