The Viaduct Basin is buzzing again and it’s all because of a few special boats. They arrived in Auckland last night at the end of the fourth leg of the Volvo round-the-world ocean race.
Aucklander’s have a special affinity with round-the-world sailing so it was no surprise that they arrived at the Race Village on the first day of the stopover in their thousands. There was plenty to see, even if the sailing crews had disappeared – understandable after 20 days of tough sailing and little sleep. At the Race Village you can get up close to the boats and watch the maintenance crews prepare the boats for their next leg through the Southern Ocean to Brazil, experience what it’s like to be a round-the-world sailor and enjoy the legendary hospitality that is part of an Auckland stopover experience.
