Christmas in the wool shed

Who would have thought that a red wool shed surrounded by rows and rows of tidy green vines could be a Christmas wonderland? But there is a special place Marlborough where it is true.

Each year, four lovely ladies create magic for the people of Marlborough with trees and lights, garlands and baubles. Christmas must be a bigger part of their lives than it is for most of us as they spent months finding the cutest and the shiniest and then have a great deal of fun playing in the wool shed. They’ve filled old leather suitcases with gold and silver stars and balls, crammed bureau drawers with tiny white angels and packed baskets with painted elves and sparkly fairies. They’ve covered wooden tables with crystal and candles and other shiny things and turned mantelpieces into resting spots for toy soldiers in smart red jackets.  Of course, there are Santa Clauses too, from the tiniest to a slightly scary life-sized one. They call it Santa’s Haven and it is.

The Christmas Shoppe is at Vintage Lane, Blenheim.
